Best of Both Worlds
Every wedding is beautiful and special in its own way. Chris and Monica’s wedding was extra special not only for them, but also for us at Kairos Works, as it marks our first wedding held in Myanmar. It was such an honor and treat to witness deep Myanmar culture and modern grandeur played out in front of our very eyes.
Chris and Monica’s holy matrimony began at the beginning of the day at the local monastery in Myanmar. The lovebirds looked regal in traditional Burmese white wedding attire as they walked in the monastery. It was intimate, solemn and sacred with only close friends and family members in attendance. The whole procession was filled with strings of meaningful and symbolic gestures heavily influenced by the Buddhist and Burmese culture. One of the rituals that stood out was the pouring of the liquid from a teapot to a cup performed by the Chris and Monica and the family members. What was more interesting was they continued the action of pouring for some moments even after the liquid in the teapot was gone. As this ritual was performed, the monks recite prayers over them.
The festivities continued as the holy matrimony ended. Let’s fast forward to one of the grandest moments of the wedding: their grand entrance! Their dinner reception was held at a Venice-esque restaurant that is surrounded by water. Although Chris and Monica opted for traditional Burmese attire for their holy matrimony, Monica chose a very modern style outfit for their extravagant entrance. Still in all white, she had on a peplum top and pants completed with a crown on her head. As the bright sky gave its way to the night, so did the guests made way to Chris and Monica. Slowly but surely a beautifully decorated boat sailed its way to the restaurant. If that wasn't grand, I don't know what is! Guests cheered and clapped as they tried to immortalize the moment by holding their cellphones up high with the record button at the ready.
Chris and Monica’s wedding allowed us to have a taste of both worlds: the traditional and the contemporary. The whole day was a testament of the possibility of paying respect to the culture yet still showcased their personalities. We could see the happiness in their faces with each procession they celebrated on that day. We wish Chris and Monica much love and happiness as they go through life as husband and wife! Cheers!
